Butterscotch Blondies

If you love traditional brownies, you will love these Butterscotch Blondies. Most traditional brownies contain the main ingredient chocolate but the “star of the show” in blondies is brown sugar. Butter and brown sugar are key ingredients found in Butterscotch flavors. Brown sugar is a combination of sugar and molasses (or treacle) and varies (light or dark) in color based on the amount of molasses added to the sugar. Butterscotch flavors can be followed all the way back to England during the 1800’s. These blondies are packed with butterscotch chips, butter, brown sugar and an additional ingredient maple syrup.

The maple syrup also elevates the flavor profile of these butterscotch blondies as well as pair well with Georgia-grown chopped pecans. The pecans add an additional layer of texture to the blondie in addition to providing that "crunch factor" we all look for while eating.

I remember as a kid enjoying those Butterscotch candies my mom and granny bought for me at the store. The rich delicious flavors, of brown sugar, butter and hint of salt brings back so many memories. I particularly remember how long the candy would last in my mouth and the flavors lingering hours after it had finally dissolved. These Butterscotch Blondies have those same rich delicious flavors and I particularly relish the idea of enjoying a butterscotch blondie (or two) with a glass of cold milk. I urge you to try this recipe as I am sure these blondies will create conversation during your social gatherings or a quiet evening at home for one.
